چکیده

Present spline-tting methods used in computer vision do not fully address the main issues of developing an automatic and reliable algorithm , which are discussed in this paper. A paradigm for spline tting is proposed, with features of the algorithm selected such that the main issues are resolved. This is achieved through the use of B-spline active contours, the minimum description length principle, and in conjunction with a control point insertion strategy based on the Potential for Energy-Reduction Maximisation (PERM). This strategy selects control points such that the formation of compatible collapse mechanisms for the splines is encouraged. An implementation of the algorithm is carried and tested on various images. A comparison with one of the better existing methods for spline tting demonstrates that there is considerable potential for the algorithm to outperform current algorithms.

3D Reconstruction Using Cubic Bezier Spline Curves and Active Contours (Case Study)

Introduction 3D reconstruction of an object from its 2D cross-sections (slices) has many applications in different fields of sciences such as medical physics and biomedical engineering. In order to perform 3D reconstruction, at first, desired boundaries at each slice are detected and then using a correspondence between points of successive slices surface of desired object is reconstructed. Mate...

Minimum Description Length for shape-based segmentation of seabed images

SHORT ABSTRACT: The paper is a contribution to the problem of producing sensor-specific seabed maps, that describe the morphological features of each different region in the area considered. It applies the Minimum Description Length (MDL) principle to identify the dimensionality of a statistical shape model that describes them. Our shape model combines the finite-dimensional representation of c...

Unsupervised contour representation and estimation using B-splines and a minimum description length criterion

This paper describes a new approach to adaptive estimation of parametric deformable contours based on B-spline representations. The problem is formulated in a statistical framework with the likelihood function being derived from a region-based image model. The parameters of the image model, the contour parameters, and the B-spline parameterization order (i.e., the number of control points) are ...
